SUPPORT4AUTISM PROJECT

Learning Center for Magical Autistic Children is a not-for-profit co-operative of parents and primary care givers looking after children with autism and other learning difficulties on Samui island. The Center receives no financial support from local government and all services are absolutely free for the children and their families.

Approximately 15 children attend a day center set up by Khun Dalin, a Thai lady from a long established Samui family with two special needs children of her own. This centre provides a safe space for the children to learn, play and develop social skills in a supportive caring environment.

Rotary Club of Samui-Phangan is committed to helping in any way we can. At the moment through club donations we provide salaries for two care workers, cover some children’s transportation costs to the learning center, provide essential supplies for lunches, arrange outdoor activities for exercise and well being, encourage helpers to share their skills and knowledge with the children and where appropriate with the Thai staff and fundraise for building maintenance and essential items like furniture, fans, learning materials etc.

HOW TO DONATE

There are no government facilities for children with autism or other learning difficulties on the islands of Samui and Phangan!

Children with even mild behavioral problems are excluded from mainstream schools since the school system is already under-resourced and stretched to capacity.

There are two not-for-profit organizations on Samui caring for these children and The Rotary Club of Samui-Phangan offers its unconditional support to both these organizations and all special needs children and their families on the islands.

Support for The Learning Centre for Magical Autistic Children

Rotary raises funds for two support staff who work tirelessly for the benefit of the children. We also help with running costs and essential items like furniture, fans, learning materials etc. The learning centre provides one hot cooked meal at lunchtime and for most children this is the first and only cooked meal of the day. Rotary provides funds and supplies to make this possible.

Swimming Pool Sessions

We are lucky in having procured the use of a suitable swimming pool (shallow depth throughout). Under the guidance of a professional swimming coach and the watchful eyes of Rotary members and others helpers the children have one morning a week to learn to swim – plus splash, jump and scream like “normal” children Currently this activity is one morning once a week.
